Paula Deen was recently exposed to have been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. Paula is a Food Network star who has written five best-selling cookbooks. She is famous for her butter and cream filled recipes. She often show America how to fry...anything and is famous for throwing sticks of butter into the meals that she cooks on her nationwide cooking show.
Even though it is often criticized for the unhealthy nature of the meals she recommends, she has been unwavering about her recipes.
It's been reported that Ms. Deen, 64, who never addressed the diabetes question when asked about the possibility before, has worked out a multimillion-dollar deal to be the spokeswoman for a pharmaceutical company and endorse the drug she is now taking.
The critics have said that Deen will HAVE to change the way that she positions herself as a Food Network star. She cannot continue to cook with excessive oils, sugar and salt, when you’re diagnosed with a life-threatening disease which is caused by that type of cooking.
Diabetes is a serious disease. As the article above states; "Diabetes now affects nearly 26 million Americans of all ages and 79 million people have what doctors call "pre-diabetes", according to 2011 estimates released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention."
Obesity is an epidemic in the United States among adults and children. Diabetes is a possible consequence of obesity.
If you feel that you may be pre-diabetic or obese, now is the time to make some changes in your lifestyle. It begins with 'baby-step' changes in your food-choices, and beginning to exercise by getting active and then progressively increasing the intensity and variety of your workout.
Changes in body weight, can only happen when there is a marriage between healthy eating (like a clean eating diet), and exercise. One without the other will not lead to the success that you need to fend off the threat of obesity and type 2 Diabetes.
I sincerely hope that Paula Deen finds success in managing her health issues. Being forced to reveal an illness that challenges the very way you make your living is difficult. On top of that, being faced with obesity and Diabetes is an emotionally charged and difficult issue to challenge. I know that she is strong enough to evolve her personal cooking style to reflect the healthy choices that today's society needs to be taught and to see.
